The primary responsibility of the Transfer Jockey CDL is to safely and efficiently operate yard tractors to move trailers between docks and designated yard locations. This role is critical to maintaining smooth shipping and receiving operations, ensuring proper trailer staging, temperature control, and overall yard safety. As you gain experience, you may take on additional responsibilities supporting shipping, logistics, and yard coordination.
1st Shift Available
What You’ll DoMove trailers to and from loading docks and designated yard locations using a yard tractor.
Back trailers accurately and safely into loading docks.
Perform routine safety checks on yard equipment and trailers.
Monitor refrigerated trailers to ensure proper operation and temperature control.
Adjust refrigeration unit temperature settings and report shutdown codes or issues to supervision.
Open, close, secure, and seal trailer doors as required.
Maintain radio communication with shipping personnel to receive instructions on trailer movements.
Track and maintain an accurate log of all yard moves during your shift.
Follow all safety policies, procedures, and traffic rules within the yard.
Maintain clean, orderly working conditions and promote good housekeeping habits.
Work collaboratively with shipping, receiving, and other departments to meet operational goals.
Minimum Qualifications:
Valid driver’s license with a good driving record (MVR verification required).
Ability to speak, read, and understand English, including safety rules and procedures.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Comfort working in all weather conditions and around moving equipment.
Willingness to follow company policies, procedures, and safety standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience operating yard jockey equipment, tractors, or similar vehicles.
Familiarity with refrigerated trailers and temperature monitoring.
Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
Ability to remain alert and safety-focused in a fast-paced environment.
Regularly required to walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and safely enter/exit vehicles using three points of contact.
Ability to lift and/or move more than 50 lbs occasionally.
Vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral, night vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
Regular exposure to moving vehicles, mechanical parts, elevated areas, and all weather conditions.
