Job Description

Corestaff Services is seeking a Library Technician to support the day-to-day operations of the library by maintaining collections, updating records, and assisting with preservation and repair of library materials. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively to ensure the library collection remains accessible and well maintained.

Key Responsibilities

• Enter and update records in the library’s database and computer systems.
• Respond to email inquiries and assist with general library communications.
• Organize and maintain documents, files, and library materials.
• Perform collection maintenance including sorting, shelving, pulling, shifting, weeding, and shelf reading of books and materials.
• Maintain orderly shelves through routine straightening and inspection.
• Monitor stack lighting and environmental conditions, including temperature checks.
• Assist with preservation activities such as re-housing materials, dis-binding, tipping-in pages, and trimming materials.

Collection Preservation & Repair

• Conduct minor book repairs, including spine repair and reinforcement.
• Evaluate damaged materials and apply appropriate repair techniques.
• Support conservation efforts such as constructing replacement spines and rebinding materials when necessary.
• Safely operate conservation tools and materials used in book repair and preservation.

Qualifications

• Experience working with library systems, including Tipasa , required.
• Knowledge of general library practices and collection maintenance.
• Familiarity with book structure and common forms of material deterioration.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a structured environment.
• Experience with basic office and database systems preferred.
