Estate Planning & Trust / Probate Litigation Associate

San Mateo, CA (Onsite preferred | Hybrid option available)

A growing small-to-midsize law firm on the Peninsula is seeking an experienced Estate Planning and Trust/Probate Administration Associate Attorney to join the firm in an expansion role . This is a full-time opportunity for an attorney who enjoys taking ownership of matters, working directly with clients, and contributing to a collaborative and well-established practice.

The Role

This position offers a balanced mix of estate planning and trust/probate litigation, with responsibility for matters from intake through completion. The firm values attorneys who are proactive, highly organized, and client-focused, with strong written and analytical skills.

What You'll Do

• Advise clients on estate planning objectives and guide them through available options
• Draft comprehensive estate planning documents, managing matters from start to finish
• Oversee and administer trusts and probate matters, including timelines, filings, and distributions
• Maintain regular and clear communication with clients regarding case progress
• Work closely with partners, senior attorneys, and staff to ensure high-quality work product
• Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, procedures, and deadlines
• Appear on behalf of clients in court proceedings, mediations, depositions, or arbitrations when needed

What We're Looking For

• J.D. from an accredited law school
• Active license with the California State Bar
• Approximately 5+ years of experience in estate planning (litigation exposure is a plus but not required)
• Experience handling trust and probate administration; evidentiary hearing experience is a plus
• Strong drafting, communication, and organizational skills
• Ability to manage multiple matters independently while maintaining attention to detail
• High professional standards, integrity, and commitment to client service

Compensation & Benefits

• Base salary range: $125,000-$175,000, depending on experience
• Billable expectation: approximately 1,500 hours annually

• Full-time, exempt position

Pay Details: $125,000.00 to $175,000.00 per year
