Job Title: Radiation Therapy Aide

Department: Radiation Therapy Oncology

Location: Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine-3400 Civic Center Blvd

Hours: Mon-Fri office hours

Summary:

  • Under the supervision of the Radiation Therapy Manager, the Radiation Therapy Aide is a non-licensed, non-clinical role that provides support to the following areas: Proton Therapy, Photon Therapy, Simulation/Imaging/High Dose Rate Brachytherapy. The role is responsible for providing excellence in customer service and patient care while expediting patient throughput.

Accountabilities :

  • Supports patients with wayfinding, particularly navigating to and from Radiation Oncology CT Simulation, machine vaults and/or procedural spaces, notifies appropriate members of the care team of patient arrival and communicates movement of patients within the facility.
  • Troubleshoots to resolve patient and family member needs by escalating questions or concerns to appropriate members of the department or health system.
  • Assists with preparing simulation or treatment rooms under the direction of Radiation Therapists.
  • Completes cleaning tasks utilizing OSHA standards. Performs maintenance and/or inventory of equipment according to unit/department standards.
  • Practices standard precautions while handling contaminated items.
  • Assists in getting patients changed/dressed prior to their simulation or treatment.
  • Assists patients with scheduling questions.
  • Documents information in the EMR in an accurate and timely manner, according to the department/unit standards.
  • Stocks supplies to meet the needs of the unit/department.
  • Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization
Education or Equivalent Experience:
  • H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
  • Graduate from an accredited Radiation Therapy Program within 5 years of hire
  • Associate of Arts or Science Preferred
Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrates customer service skills
  • Demonstrates interpersonal/verbal communication skills
  • Basic computer knowledge and skills
  • Ability to speak, read and write in English
  • Ability to utilize critical thinking
  • Ability to multitask
  • Experience using EMR
