NONPROFIT ACCOUNTANT

Nonprofit Accountants manage accounting operations for a portfolio of nonprofit clients, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and timely deliverables.
We are seeking a detail-oriented, tech-savvy professional who thrives on accuracy and collaboration and will serve as a trusted partner to clients—providing insights, answering questions, and helping them make informed financial decisions that support their mission.
Purpose
Ensure the accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of client accounting operations so nonprofit organizations can focus on their mission.
What You’ll Do
Accounting and Reporting
Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts
Prepare and post journal entries
Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
Manage accounts payable and receivable, including reconciliations
Prepare accurate and timely financial reports
Support budgeting processes and variance reporting
Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal control standards
Client Relationship Management
Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned clients
Respond to financial inquiries clearly and promptly
Meet regularly with clients to review financials and support decision-making
Explain financial reports, including board-level reporting as needed
Projects, Audits, and Process Improvement
Support client onboarding, including system setup and process alignment
Coordinate annual audits and assist with required documentation
Identify and recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy
Team Collaboration
Partner with internal teams to ensure consistent, high-quality client service
Share knowledge and support team members as needed

Accurate and timely financial reporting for all assigned clients
Strong client relationships built on trust and responsiveness
On-time completion of month-end close and key deliverables
Consistent adherence to compliance and internal control standards
Proactive identification of issues and practical solutions
What You Bring
Experience and Education
Two or more years of accounting experience using an accounting platform
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree with accounting coursework preferred
Nonprofit accounting experience strongly preferred
Skills
Knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
Excellent organization and time management skills
Proficiency with spreadsheets and accounting systems
Clear written and verbal communication skills

Essential Job Functions
Ability to work on a computer for extended periods

Other Position Details
Salary: $22 - $32/hour, depending on experience
Job Classification: Part-time or full-time
Reports to: Managing Director
Location Options:
Hybrid: Wheaton, Illinois headquarters
Fully Remote (U.S. only): Available only in the following states: AR, AZ, CO, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, MI, NC, OH, TN, TX. Applicants must reside in one of these states. Applications from other locations will not be considered.
