We are looking to appoint a Learning Support Assistant to join the enhanced learning team at Saint Felix School. The role will be to support a pupil in year 4, there may also be other work across the school working both in lessons and in out of the classroom activities. This is a permanent role and would be for 19 hours per week across 5 days. Saint Felix School is an independent co-educational day and boarding school for students aged from 2 to 18, located close to the glorious seaside town of Southwold on the Suffolk coast. We also aim to attract pupils from a diverse range of backgrounds. As a Learning support assistant your main role is to provide support for pupils with special educational needs. You will ensure pupils can integrate as fully as possible in the activities generally undertaken by the other children in the class and make progress. Duties will include running specific programmes and activities to assist the pupils’ individual learning and social needs. You will be responsible for implementing the targets on the pupils’ Individual Education Plan (IEP) in liaison with the class teachers and the SENDCo. As a Learning Support Assistant you will; Provide learning support for pupils in class or in 1:1 situations Develop knowledge of the particular needs of the children and seek advice from the SENDCo, class teacher and outside agencies as required Aid access to the full range of learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom and provide modified materials as required e.g. worksheets, games, visual prompt cards etc. Make or modify resources as suggested and advised by the SENDCo, Educational Psychologist or other outside agencies Organise and maintain an inclusive learning environment across the whole school environment Provide positive reinforcements, praise and rewards to pupils Facilitate inclusion in small group activities with peers and support interaction between them To attend in service training and relevant meetings relevant to the post in order to keep up to date with developments in working with children with special educational needs We welcome applications from those who have experience of working with children, the following skills and attributes are essential: Have GCSE or equivalent qualifications in Maths and English. Have training in aspects of SEND, i.e. dyslexia, autism etc Have experience of working with children with special educational needs in a school setting Have knowledge and understanding of the different social, emotional, cultural and physical needs of pupils Have an interest in how children learn and behave Be able to provide appropriate role models of behaviour both in the classroom and around school.
