As a key member of the Executive, Management & Leadership team, the Chief Nursing Officer will serve as the senior nursing executive responsible for setting and executing the overall nursing vision, aligning clinical practice with organizational strategy, and advancing a culture of excellence, compassion, and integrity. This role will oversee nursing standards of care, evidence-based practice, clinical quality, and patient safety, collaborating closely with physician leaders, operational executives, and frontline caregivers to ensure consistently high-quality, patient-centered care. The Chief Nursing Officer will lead the development and implementation of nursing policies, procedures, and care models that promote patient safety, satisfaction, and optimal outcomes across the care continuum. They will drive initiatives focused on quality improvement, regulatory compliance, and accreditation readiness, ensuring adherence to state and federal regulations as well as professional standards. This includes guiding nurse recruitment, orientation, competency validation, and succession planning to build a strong pipeline of nursing leaders at all levels. In partnership with other executives, the Chief Nursing Officer will help design and implement innovative, evidence-based care delivery models, leveraging data, analytics, and clinical best practices to improve efficiency and outcomes. The role will play a central part in advancing Intermountain Health’s initiatives in value-based care, population health, and care coordination, with a strong emphasis on equitable access and community-oriented care. The CNO will collaborate with quality, risk, and patient experience teams to reduce harm events, enhance patient satisfaction scores, and support performance on key quality metrics. The Chief Nursing Officer will be responsible for developing and managing nursing budgets, aligning resources with strategic priorities, and ensuring cost-effective operations without compromising quality or safety. They will work closely with finance and operations leaders to evaluate service lines, optimize staffing, and support capital planning for nursing-related technology, equipment, and infrastructure. In addition, the CNO will support the adoption of clinical technologies, including electronic health records and digital health solutions, to streamline workflows and support clinical decision-making. This leader will serve as the chief advocate for nursing within Intermountain Health, representing nursing interests at the executive table and within the broader community. The CNO will maintain strong relationships with academic partners, professional organizations, and regulatory bodies, positioning Intermountain Health as a destination employer for nursing professionals. They will foster a collaborative environment where nurses are empowered to contribute to quality improvement, research, and innovation initiatives. Intermountain Health offers a collaborative, mission-driven environment where leaders are encouraged to pursue professional growth and contribute to cutting-edge healthcare solutions. The Chief Nursing Officer will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the health system’s strategic direction and the lives of patients, families, and communities served. The ideal candidate will be an experienced nursing executive with a track record of leading large, complex healthcare organizations, demonstrating excellent communication skills, emotional intelligence, and a deep commitment to patient-centered, evidence-based care.
